OVERVIEW

As my master thesis project, I worked with Ericsson to design, develop and evaluate a touch based dashboard application that visualizes a stream of data coming & leaving from different parts of a smart autonomous warehouse.

The workflow split between warehouses, trucks and their communication with multiple retailers.

Due to complexity of the data coming from the warehouse, we split the streams into three categories, or levels. These levels are further divided into 'cards' based on the KPIs safety, performance and sustainability. The KPIs were a result of prior research of this project.

Supply Chain Level

visualizes data available outside the warehouse scope and how the objects in the warehouse interact with the outside environment (suppliers, retailers, and warehouse).

Warehouse Level

visualizes the movement and exchange of data inside the warehouse primarily by the robots.

Intellegent Agent Level

visualizes intelligence and interoperability related concerns of the robots.

TESTING VISUALISATION STYLES

We tested different kinds of vizualisation techniques on users to determine the kind of information they needed upfront and the secondary information that can be presented on demand.

A working prototype

The master thesis ended with me building out a prototype for Ericsson with dummy data on the back-end and a front-end with react, redux and d3.

FUTURE

As a result of this thesis, we published a paper, while the development was further continued by the research team at Ericsson with funding from the SCOTT project. For me, this was the first time I worked with sockets, setting up dummy back-end APIs on the development side and I learnt to work on a touch based interactive dashboard application.
